1. Get a Mani
"Hey, I've got this."
Nothing ruins your weekend quite like Monday. Yes, it comes every week, but some Mondays are just worse than others. (Let's say, the Monday after Spring Break... which inspired me to write this post last week.) Now, I think it's silly to let a day of the week dictate our happiness, but I also can't argue that Mondays tend to be a brutal return to reality, work, school, after a worry-free weekend. That said, here are 10 simple things you can do this (and every) Monday to brighten it up a little.
1. Get a Mani
Whether you get your nails done and enjoy a little pampering or do them yourself as I do, starting the week off with a fresh mani is always a good idea! (Bloggers have coined the term #ManiMonday for a reason...) Not only will it make you smile as you catch glimpses of your chip-free tips clicking away on your keyboard, but others are sure to notice, too. A mani is a quick & easy way to say,
"Hey, I've got this."
2. Go Outside
Sometimes the dreariest part of Mondays is the simple fact of being stuck inside all day at school or work. (Especially when the weather is as nice as it is now.) Make an effort to spend a good 30 minutes outside this Monday! Take your lunch break on the patio, plan to walk your dog when you get home, or have your morning coffee on the front porch. You'll be surprised how much good a little fresh air can do.
3. Buy Yourself a Little Something
Okay, so the keyword here is little. Don't take this as a green light to splurge and buy that Celine you've been drooling over but totally can't afford. This will only create more stress. All I'm saying is treat yourself a little! (Even though you do deserve that Celine, darling.) Picking up some fresh blooms is sure to brighten your day and week to come, as well as a little responsible online shopping. Lately, I've been finding amazing deals on small, cutesy things to update my wardrobe like statement necklaces from Jewel Mint and fun shoes from 2020 Ave. Also, with most online retailers shipping in 5-7 business days, your goodies may just be delivered next Monday and that will surely be a happy moment!
4. Update your Playlist
You know that surge of energy and urge to get up and dance that hits you when that song comes on? You know, that song. Well, find yourself a new one! Downloading new music to listen to throughout the afternoon makes the day a little more exciting and gives you an awesome soundtrack for the whole week to come.
5. Hit the Gym
Okay, so this might sound like another dreadful thing you have to add to your Monday to-do list but it's not even like that, I swear. Think about how good you feel walking out of the gym after a workout. This feeling alone makes a trip to the gym worth it, along with all of the obvious benefits. Plus, you're boosting your endorphins along with your confidence which is guaranteed to make you feel pretty damn good. (AND you already have a new killer playlist to listen to at the gym!)
6. Make Fun Plans for Later in the Week
If you can't really do anything to spice up your day today, ensure that you have something to look forward to later in the week by making some plans to play. Schedule in happy hour with the girls, a trip to the mall, or vow to try that new place for dinner on Friday. This will give you a little motivation to get through the week!
7. Call an Old Friend
In our busy lives it can be super tough to stay in touch with everyone who we'd like. Take five or ten minutes and reach out to an old friend you haven't talked to in a while. It will probably brighten up their Monday, too! (Extra points if you take a hint from #6 and make plans with them while you're at it.)
8. Wear your Favorite Lipstick
I think that sometimes us girls forget the power of an awesome, bold lip. Maybe it's just me, but something about it gives an instant confidence boost. Whatever it is that makes you feel unstoppable and gorgeous, do it.
9. Get Inspired
Sometimes all we need to get through the day is a little inspiration to remind us why we're doing what we are and re-adjust our sights on where we want to go. With social media and the internet, inspiration is always just a click away. When I'm feeling in need of some inspiration I'll peruse my favorite fashion blogs, poke through Instagram, and usually end up on Pinterest, which has been taking up a large chunk of my spare time lately. After a little inspiration sesh I always walk away determined and much more productive. (Check out my Pinterest here!)
10. Do a Random Act of Kindness
If you're having a crummy day, well, chances are you're not the only one. What if you could do something to make someone else's day a little better? Well, you can. Make it a point to go out of your way to do at least one act of kindness for a stranger today, no matter how small. Good deeds tend to have a domino effect, so you'll probably be sparking a lot more good in the world than you even realize. One day, someone just might return the favor to you.
