Winter Coats and Puffy Jackets
I had the pleasure of spending the past week in Barcelona, Spain, visiting my brother who is studying abroad. Prior to the trip, besides anxiously awaiting all of the adventures that lay ahead, I was full of curiosity as to what fashions the Spanish would be sporting. In just the short time that I was there, I was impressed by how fashionable the population was. However, there was definitely a typical look that people really didn't stray from. I intended on taking my own pictures of stylish passersby I saw on the streets, but the language barrier made it hard to approach people and tell them about my blog, and my incognito shots didn't turn out so well. Regardless, I took good notes so here are the trends that I saw, and what makes up what I like to call the "Catalon uniform".
Winter Coats and Puffy Jackets
The average temperature in the city never crept above 50 degrees Fahrenheit during my visit, then add gusts of chilling winds and Barcelona's notorious spitting rain, and this urban environment might as well be the Arctic. Unlike me, the locals were always prepared for this kind of weather and never left their home without throwing on a large coat over whatever they had on. Living in sunny Arizona, I've never owned a jacket like that in my life (other than to throw on whilst snowboarding), but winter jackets were a definite Barcelona staple. They even pulled off the puffy jacket without looking like giant marshmallows, something I have never been able to do.
Scarves might not seem like a trend, but the way the Spanish wear them, they definitely are. Men and women alike are rarely seen without a huge, chunky knit scarf wrapped around their necks up to their chins.
From casual to dressy, boots to heels, the chunky block heel is a must in the city. I learned the hard way, stumbling around in my platform wedges attempting to navigate metros and cobblestone roads. Taking it down a notch with just a subtle, chunky heel offers the best of both worlds and is super practical for city life and all the walking that comes with it.
If you've read my blog before, then you know I'm a HUGE fan of the sneaker wedge and you can imagine my excitement when I stepped off the plane in Spain and everyone was rocking these. I've never seen so many kick ass sneaks in my life! Even if they weren't wedges, the sneaker game was out of control. I just wish I packed mine!
Overall, I was very impressed by the styles that I saw on my European adventure. I shamelessly plan to steal some of their steeze to add to my wardrobe and you can too! Here's a few stores I fell in love with while abroad, and although not all of them ship internationally they're still great for browsing and gaining some inspiration from.
February in Arizona means ditching those bulky winter clothes and an early start to spring! Thanks to the lovely weather here, I couldn't resist today's outfit centered around this Forever 21 headband. I can already tell that polka dots are going to be my weakness this upcoming spring. When paired with retro red lips and pearl accents, it's effortlessly chic.
Blazer (Forever 21), Blouse (Merona), Denim (Pacsun), Wedges (Forever 21), Necklace (H&M), Earrings (Aldo)
I'm ashamed to admit that I've been neglecting the blog as of late... things have been crazy with the holidays and the expansion of Studs'N'Steeze. However, I am proud to announce the recent successes of the company and the new Stud'N'Steeze Storenvy store which can be found here. It features items straight out of my closet as well as brand new, unworn finds. Check it out, Storenvy is one of my new favorite sites and will become your new online shopping addiction-- beware.
Since I've been gone for so long, I thought I'd take you through my holiday looks that I never got to post and share a little of what my last few months have consisted of!
My brother and I on Thanksgiving Day in sunny Arizona. I chose an ox blood lace sheath dress from H&M for the occasion accompanied by gold accents and classic black suede pumps. Also would like to point out my brother's gray suede desert boots, so proud of him for that! (And the cute little argyle socks he wore under them.)
Of all the looks, my personal favorite was this little houndstooth number I wore on Christmas Day. Thank goodness for my little black H&M blazer and suede wedges, as you can clearly see, they were my go-to's this holiday season.
